LNG and Cryogenic Piping

Insul-8® Cryo Above & Below Ground Piping

“Green Energy” is the direction in which the world is heading. Moving away from fossil fuels and toward lower cost & lower emission sources makes Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) a significant factor whose role will only continue to increase in the future.

LNG use can be found in a variety of industries. Some of these include; residential energy for cooking, heating homes and generating electricity, food, dairy & beverage processing, aggregates & asphalts manufacturing and of course marine fuel bunkering.

Insul-8 Cryo Piping Carrier Pipe is available in 2" to 24" in diameter and is Stainless Steel or Carbon Steel consisting of one of the following materials:

  • Stainless Steel; Schedule 10 or Schedule 20
  • ASTM A333 Grade 6 SMLS, ASTM A53 Grade B ERW
  • ASTM A106 Grade B SMLS
LNG and Cryogenic Piping

Insul-8 Cryo systems are also available with a variety of different jacketing material. For above installations a metal spiral lock seam jacket made of galvanized, aluminum or stainless steel is used. The insulation is PIR300 25/50 polyisocyanurate foam able to handle temperatures as low as -297°F. With the 25/50 (flame/smoke) designation in accordance with ASTM E84, it is also approved for indoor installations.

For below ground applications the Insul-8 Cryo systems have either a HDPE, carbon steel coated with Rhinocoat® Fusion Bonded Epoxy or stainless steel. The Rhinocoat coated carbon steel and/or stainless steel jackets can be combined with Cryogel® Z insulation providing a different system configuration is so desired.

Cryogel® Z Insulation

Cryogel® Z Insulation

Cryogel Z flexible hydrophobic insulation which has a K factor of .10-.13 (dependent on temp), from 5mm-10mm thick depending on specifications, compressive resistance of ≥5 psi, linear shrinkage <2%, water vapor absorption ≤5% by weight, and maximum continuous service temperature of 257ºF. Conformance with ASTM Standard C795, C1191, C1338, C1617, C1763, E84 and E96.

Vacuum Insulated Piping

Vacuum Insulated Piping

A flexible, double-walled, vacuum-insulated piping system for the efficient transport of all cryogenic liquified gases. The vacuum-insulated pipe is delivered ready to install with pre-installed end connections & pumped vacuum. This cryogenic piping can be easily installed in a short amount of time.

Vacuum Insulated Piping consists of:

  • Corrugated Pipe, AISI 316L Stainless Steel
  • Vacuum Super Insulation (including spacer)
  • Corrugated Pipe, AISI 316L Stainless Steel
  • Flat Steel Armoring, AISI 304 Stainless Steel
  • Protective PE-LD Jacket
Cryogenic Piping

This cryogenic piping is available in standard nominal diameters ranging from DN 15 to DN 40 & an operating temperature range from –328°F to 122°F (–200°C to +50°C ) at a pressure level of PN 25. The maximum pressures at temperatures below –328°F (–200°C) are available as are larger nominal diameters (up to DN 200), but are not standard.
